The Great Ocean Road, a heritage listing

The Heritage Minister, Tony Burke, this week announced that the Great Ocean Road and Bells Beach are to be heritage listed.

The listing will see the area benefit from increased funding, greater environmental and cultural protection and an amplified presence in the global tourism arena, alongside other listed icons such as Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef.

Australian households are saving more and paying down their debt but indebtedness remains historically high, the Reserve Bank of Australia said in its half yearly Financial Stability Review.

The RBA said that while the reduced debt levels and increased savings had increased the resilience of the banking sector, it had an effect on the housing market.
