Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

For those of us lucky enough to enjoy cycling along the Great Ocean Road on a regular basis, only once a year do we get the opportunity to ride it without sharing the road with cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles.

This year’s Amy’s Gran Fondo ride is still months away but already around 3,500 riders have registered for the September 16 event. With a cap of 5000 entrants in three cycling events, organisers hope more people will register in coming months.

Designed to raise awareness and money for bike safety programs, the event is held in honour of Amy Gillett, the Australian team cyclist who died on a German road in 2005.

So come on and have a go. I will be cycling the long ride of 120kms and I expect to see you there. (details below).

Amy’s Gran Fondo: 120km Lorne to Lorne
