Reflective of a very strong market in our area, Melbourne’s auction clearance rates have been far stronger this spring than last with September averaging 71.4% compared to 58.8% recorded a year ago.

Both buyer and seller enthusiasm continues to rise with 732 properties listed for auction on the weekend – well ahead of the 503 auctioned a year ago.

A surge in auction listings is expected over the coming weeks leading up to the Melbourne Cup weekend.

Another test for the market may also be gathering with signs of a weakening economy with the unemployment rate rising to 5.9% over August – something the Reserve Bank will no doubt be keeping an eye on leading up to its next interest rate decision on Melbourne Cup day in three weeks.
