Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

Welcome to Aireys Inlet

You know the seasons are changing when you wake up to a solid groundswell hitting the beaches just as we did on Thursday morning.

Delighted surfers made the most of the conditions along the coast and although it wasn’t perfect it was a precursor of what is to come.

Alcoa has been all over the news this week after it announced the closure of its aluminium smelter in Geelong, meaning the loss of almost 800 jobs.

Alcoa also announced it will seek buyers for Anglesea’s 45 year old brown-coal and power plant and open cut mine.

Local activists have called for it to close down rather than be sold, citing health concerns.  Concerns were also raised about the 80 jobs there.
