Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

What a week we have had on the Surfcoast! Large ocean swells delighting the surfers, lots and lots of rain delighting those who rely on tank water and we even had snow at the back of Lorne.

In fact I had a surf on Tuesday with a local lad who had been ‘skiing’ in the Otway’s in the morning and was heading out for surf at his ‘local’ break. How many places can you ski and surf within 15 minutes’ drive of each other?

The Reserve Bank this week decided to keep cash rates unchanged at 1.5%. Conditions in the housing market continue to vary considerably around the country. Housing prices have been rising briskly in some markets, although there are signs that conditions are easing, especially in Sydney.

The RBA judged that the low level of rates is continuing to support the Australian economy.

In other news the Victorian and Federal Governments have jointly committed to $100 million for an upgrade program to ensure the longevity of the Great Ocean Road for years to come. A key part of this program is the strengthening or replacement of a number of bridges along the road. The Moggs Creek bridges have deteriorated over the years and have now been identified for replacement. Vic Roads is holding an information session at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club on September 16 between 1 and 4pm for those interested. For further information call (03) 5225 2562 or email greatoceanroad@roads.vic.gov.au.
