Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

Smoke was evident yesterday as firefighters conducted a burn off at the end of the beach at Spout Creek, known to many of us as a surf spot called Hunters.

It turns out that this wasn’t a standard burn off at all. It was in fact part of an investigation into the murder of a 22 year old man in Melbourne last year.

Police believe the shooters of the man were part of a bikie gang who were supposed to target another man in the same street.

Some time ago police found a gun on the rocks at Eastern View. Police are in no doubt it was the murder weapon and are conducting the burn off in the hope of finding more evidence.

Police were stationed last night at the scene to guard it and are expected to continue the search today once the ground has cooled down.
