Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

Today marks the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere.  The word ‘solstice’ derives from the Latin sol for ‘sun’ and sistere meaning ‘to come to a stop or make stand’.  A solstice occurs when the sun reaches its lowest or highest point in the sky during the year as a result of the Earth’s tilted axis.

For us in the southern hemisphere it marks the shortest day of the year and the unofficial start of winter.

The Love Winter in Aireys program continues on Saturday with ‘Introduction to Buddhism’ with David Mayer at the Lightkeepers Inn Motel between 2 and 3pm.  A meditation session and introduction to Buddhist teachings and its applications in everyday life.  Bookings essential mail@lightkeepersinn.com.au
