Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

Just when we thought things were getting back to normal, restrictions have kicked in again.

For those of us on the coast however, life goes on as normal (for now at least). With the Stage 3 restrictions only applying to Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire we are free to conduct business largely as we have been along the Great Ocean Road.

There are some changes around Open for Inspections:

– Social distancing (1.5 metres) is to be adhered to.
– No more than 20 members of the public in the premises at any time.
– For every person who attends for longer than 15 minutes, the agent must: request their first name and contact phone number; record those details; keep a record of their details for 28 days; take reasonable action to protect any personal information collected and to destroy the information after 28 days.
– People with COVIC-19 can attend remotely.

The large numbers of people on the coast seemed to swell considerably on Wednesday afternoon as many fled Melbourne for their coastal homes. At least many of the local trades should be in for a busy period which will somewhat offset the very quiet period experienced during the last lockdown.

That said, the government has recently announced that people renting houses here for short stays cannot extend their stay beyond the original booking. This is a government directive, not a Great Ocean Road Holidays one.

We look forward to welcoming holiday makers back hopefully soon.
