Our Backyard – Aireys Inlet

After a gloomy start to the year the weather has cleared up the last couple of days, providing some perfect beach weather to end the week and with more forecast as we head into the weekend. As I walked along the largely deserted Moggs Creek beach this morning I thought how lucky we are to be in Victoria right now. The US is in crisis with riots in Capitol Hill, Victoria (which was once the scourge of the nation with regards to Covid-19) recorded no new cases on Thursday for the first time in more than a week and the PM said that Australia would start vaccinating vulnerable groups of the population in February. With the virus largely under control and the economy improving, confidence in real estate is now higher than pre-pandemic. According to a new survey, two thirds of Australians believe it is a good time to buy property, the highest since mid 2019.

Many people have quickly shrugged off doubt about the property market, and are more confident in buying real estate than they were pre-pandemic, the national survey of more than 23,000 people conducted each month by comparison platform Finder found. Hopefully more properties will become available following the summer holidays but the expectations are that stock levels will remain low as many property owners hang on to their coastal properties after a year when they were restricted from using them for large parts.
